Baptism - Introduction
Welcome to the Baptism preparation programme.
It is our sincere hope that the programme we have put together will help to make this joyous event truly meaningful for you?
Baptism is truly the most precious gift children receive as they come into the world to begin their life journey. This is a perfect opportunity for parents to deepen their understanding of their own Baptism.
We have put together this small pack in order to make it easier for you to prepare for your child’s Baptism at home, at a time convenient for you. There are five parts to this pack. Part 4 refers to the Godparents you have chosen for your child. Of course it would be even better if the Godparents could give time to going through the whole of the four parts with you, but that may not be possible.Part 1 is a general introduction to the Sacraments.
Part 2 is for you to reflect upon prayerfully so as to deepen your own understanding of the sacrament of Baptism.
Part 3 explains the meaning of the prayers and gestures of the service.
Part 4 is for Godparents.
Part 5 offers help with frequently asked questions.
During the preparation for the baptism of your child make a note of any points you would like explained further and you will have the opportunity to put these to the priest. Please don’t be shy about mentioning any point or action which worries either of you. It is important that the day of your baby’s baptism doesn’t become an ordeal but a family occasion to be enjoyed and celebrated by everyone present.
